Marketing an Eco-friendly Expansion

Being aware that we need to conserve the environment is something that I am strongly promoting and supporting. I assume you noticed the title of my post, “Marketing an Eco-friendly Expanbsion.” Now, you are probably thinking what the hell does this have to do with anything? Well, here is your answer. Although I am currently living in Michigan, I have moved around a bit throughout my lifetime. A majority of my life however, was spent living in the state of New Jersey. Incase any of you aren’t familiar with the environmental issues that New Jersey has, let me fill you in. Although New Jersey is famously known as “the garden state,” to those that live in it it is known more for its major pollution problems. The Environmental Defense Fund just recently stated that New Jersey residents breathe air that is 1,600 times dirtier than allowed by federal safety guidelines. Also, 11% of the state’s population has asthma, mainly due to the major pollution problems. Athough I am currently living in Michigan, my goal is to not only focus on environmental problems in Michigan, but to shed the light on other states all over the country and the state of their environment. Whether the state has better or worse environmental conditions, we can still learn from them on what to do and what not to do. It is our job to expand the eco-friendly movement everywhere we can, rather than just in our area.

This week at Ingenex, my fellow interns and I had a little extra time before we got started to discuss the latest weeks research. We discussed No Impact Man, a blogger that I would definetly recommend following. This man lives in New York city and is extremely eco-friendly, i.e. he only rides his bike. How I wish I could survive on just a bike alone. Personally I am trying not to drive as much due to pollution and the constantly increasing gas prices; however, it is much easier said than done. When you are someone like me who is always extremely busy and constantly on the go it is harder than ever to not use a car.

We ended up switching locations from the Ingenex headquarters, to Espresso Royale.  Pedro and Jennifer presented their research on PR. They came up with a lot of good ideas and strategies to promote the digital marketing internship. Nick, Katie and I presented our information on schools throughout the Midwest. We presented our information on each schools digital curriculum in addition to sharing who we were about to contact and what their interest was in the digital marketing internship. We’ve all brainstormed and worked hard on coming up with great ideas to go forward with. Feel free to check out our press release for more information about the eco-friendly internship and the fall 2008 team.

We’ve been discussing ways in which we can promote the digital marketing internshipas well as connect with readers who are or want to be eco-friendly. Being able to connect with people in different states correllates with what I was saying earlier. If other people can share the environmental conditions in their state or area of the country than we can learn from it and in return share the same information with them on our state. Thus the result is people learning from others and using that knowledge to imrove their own surrounding area.

Since I have been witness to more than one states environmental conditions for a significant period of time, I can use that experience and do what I can to do my part in improving environmental conditions in my life and surrounding area. So until you read again, think about how you can learn from different environmental conditions you’ve been witness too and put that knowledge to good use.

Here is your environmental tip for the week:

Ecofriendly Internship Week 2, the Adventure Continues

Hello again, and what a busy week it has been! Last Wednesday, Jennifer and I worked on the fall 2008 section of the ecofriendly internship website. We introduced all the members of the fall 2008 team in addition to creating their bio’s, uploading their pictures and linking their blogs. We came across some problems when linking the bio’s; however, we eventually figured out our confusion and frustration was all due to a silly little mistake. Rule #1 Always make sure your blogs are published. As you can probably tell we are new to blogging and have not mastered the art…yet.

While we worked on the Fall 2008 page, Katie and Pedro collaborated to create a Squidoo profile for Ingenex Digital Marketing, while Nick wrote a press release for the Fall 2008 Eco-friendly internship. In addition to this, we all created and developed an AboutUs page.

My assignment for this week is to research how to grow the digital internship program throughout major universities within the Midwest. Nick, Katie and I are collaborating on this project and will report our research Wednesday at the next meeting. I look forward to discussing all of our research, in addition to hearing about everyone else’s. So until you read again, here is your eco-friendly tip for the week:

  • When you’re not driving, don’t leave your car running. Air pollution is a major environmental problem and even leaving your car running for a second while you grab a cup of coffee contributes to harming the ozone layer. Also, according the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, stationary vehicles are the number one source of unintentional, non-fire related fatalities.

Blogs: which ones to follow?

So far I have been searching for three stimulating blogs to follow. I’ve come across three that I think are beneficial to follow; however, that will not stop me from researching others. The award winning digital marketing agency, Twist Image, is run by Mitch Joel. In my opinion,  Mitch Joel’s Twist Image blog is worthwhile to follow mainly due to the fact that he uses his blog to share his personal insights on digital marketing and personal branding. Another blog that I thought would be useful to follow was Online Marketing Banter. Online Marketing Banter was started by Australian James Duthie in order for him to ensure that he was on top of the constantly evolving industry trends. Lastly, I came across The Green Republic. This website strives to bring awareness to environmental issues and its health impacts on people and animals.

They feed its readers with ways to “go green” and live an environmentally friendly lifestyle.

The two digital blogs that I plan on following both deal with people who not only want to share their insight, but learn from what they hear from others as well. I think the environmental blog is stimulating because not only does the blog talk about environmental issues, but it attempts to impact the reader on a personal basis. It wants the reader to take what they read and apply it to their own lifestyle.

So far just reasearching information for this internship has already expanded my knowledge on issues and facts that I was once unaware of. I have never followed a blog on a consistent basis; however, I am excited to contiue reading up on the ones that I have come across. I am still new to the world of blogging but so far I am extremely interested in it.

Incase you haven’t already started, here’s a tip on how to “Go green” at home:

Next time you go to wash some clothes try washing them in cold water whenever possible. 85% of energy used to machine-wash clothes goes into heating the water

So until you read again,

Eco-friendly digital marketing, the journey begins

Welcome to the world of digital marketing. Today was the first day of the Ingenex Digital Marketing Eco-friendly internship located in Ann Arbor, MI. Digital marketing is the future of advertising. I hope that learning more about digital marketing will help me figure out where exactly I want to specialize in the advertising industry. Digital marketing is a key tool that is currently developing and will become essential to advertising within the next few years. My goal is to understand more about this key tool and stress the importance of going green and being eco-friendly as well.

Here at Ingenex, we meet for two and half hours once a week to brainstorm and contribute ideas involving digital marking. The rest of the work is done from the privacy of our homes mainly through blogging. This, as a matter of fact, happens to be my first blog. We are somewhat spread out in age groups and are all from a variety of places; however, the diversity between the group allows for contribution of different perspectives from all areas.
